I've never understood the essence of alchemy from Carl Jung's perspective, but there are some insights.
The alchemical process of forging philosopher's stone( psychological and spiritual maturation) is a map toward individuation of true self which consists of both our inner archetypes and the collective unconscious.
Our own body, mind, and spirit is an alchemical devices that can be transmutated through
4 steps of the process:
1. Nigredo or blackness, the dark night of the soul, when an individual confronts the shadow within. Exposure and awareness toward our shadow self.
2. Albedo or whiteness. Merge of duality, and realization of the unity of opposites. Projection and awareness of anima and animus.
3. Citrinatas or yellowness. The Light within, wise old man archetype, awakening, wisdom.
4. Rubedo or redness. Forth and last major stage of Magnum opus. Achievement of great spiritual and psychological wholeness. With the merge of ego and self, the hero fulfilling his journey.
